The 2015 PGAMO is proud to support both Cops for Cancer and the Axel Merckx Youth Development Foundation
In an effort to give back to regional charitable efforts in the Okanagan, and the greater cycling community in Canada, the 2015 Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (PGAMO) is pleased to partner with Cops for Cancer and the Axel Merckx Youth Development Foundation.
As part of our commitment to supporting community and charitable programs, we’re proud welcome back Cops for Cancer, an exciting annual fundraising initiative that takes place across Canada each year.
In its first year partnering with the PGAMO, Team Cops for Cancer raised more than $30,000 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society and Camp Goodtimes, a Lower Mainland summer retreat for children with cancer and their families. While a cure for the deadly disease has not been found, great strides have been made in treatment options.
For 2015, Team Cops for Cancer looks to sign-on even more riders, and raise even more money at this year’s Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan.
In partnership with the Canadian Cycling Association and Cycling BC, the 2015 PGAMO will pledge proceeds toward the Axel Merckx Youth Development Foundation (AMYDF), which will help develop young cyclists in Canada. This coming spring, the AMYDF will launch a new youth cycling team based in the Okanagan.
“The sport of cycling has provided me with many opportunities, including the chance to race for my country and win an Olympic medal,” said Merckx, who won a bronze medal in the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. “I would like to help Canada’s youth pursue their dreams in the sport of cycling and this new partnership with Cycling BC and the Canadian Cycling Association will help achieve this goal.”
