CHARITIES

The 2013 VFGFAMO is proud to support two worthwhile charitable efforts

  • The Feed the Valley initiative and the Axel Merckx Youth Development Foundation (AMYDF) are the two designated charities of the 2013 VFGFAMO
  • Partial proceeds from each registration and the sale of official VFGFAMO merchandise benefit the AMYDF
  • Over the last two years, riders, volunteers and organizers have raised more than $11,000 and thousands of pounds of food for Feed the Valley
  • To date, more than $10,000 has been donated to the AMYDF through VFGFAMO-related activities
  • The successful AMYDF Youth Cycling Series continues in the summer of 2013.

In an effort to give back to regional charitable efforts in the Okanagan, and the greater cycling community in Canada, the 2013 Valley First Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (VFGFAMO) is pleased to partner with both the Feed the Valley initiative and the Axel Merckx Youth Development Foundation.

The Feed the Valley initiative is a partnership first developed by VFGFAMO title sponsor, Valley First. The program is aimed at tackling hunger in the Okanagan, Similkameen and Thompson valleys. VFGFAMO participants, sponsors, and partners will all be able to donate both food and funds to Feed the Valley.

“Our partnership with Valley First will ensure a top quality event in the Okanagan Valley. And we relish the opportunity to work with Valley First on its Feed the Valley campaign,”

In partnership with the Canadian Cycling Association, the 2013 VFGFAMO has also pledged proceeds toward the new Axel Merckx Youth Development Foundation, which will help develop young cyclists in Canada.

“The sport of cycling has provided me with many opportunities, including the chance to race for my country and win an Olympic medal,” said Merckx, who won a bronze medal in the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. “I would like to help Canada’s youth pursue their dreams in the sport of cycling and this new partnership with Cycling BC and the Canadian Cycling Association will help achieve this goal.”
